How to Treat a Serious Burn
This will show you how to react if you get burned. Please note that this shows what to happen after you get burned, not while you are on fire. Also please note that this is referring to serious burns.
Flames
1. Remove all clothing from the burned area that is not stuck to the skin.
2. Cool the burned area with cool water (don't use ice).
3. Cover the burn with a clean, dry bandage.
4. Keep warm.
5. Remove all jewelery, watches, belts etc.
6. Do not break blisters.
7. Do not use creams.
8. Seek medical attention. (See How to Call an Ambulance).
Scalds
1. Remove hot wet clothes.
2. Cool the burn area with cool water (don't use ice).
3. Cover the burn with a clean, dry dressing. Keep the person warm.
4. Do not use creams, or butter.
5. Do not break blisters.
6. Seek medical attention.
Contact Burn
1. Cool the burn area with cool water (don't use ice).
2. Cover the burn with a clean, dry dressing. Keep the person warm.
3. Do not use creams, or butter.
4. Do not break blisters.
5. Seek medical attention.
Electrical Burn (third person scenario)
1. Do not touch the person in contact with electricity. Injury could result.
2. Call an Ambulance
3. Disconnect the source of power or call the power company.
4. Administer Adult CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) if necessary
5. Look for other injuries.
6. Cool the burn area with cool water (not ice).
7. Cover the burn with clean dry dressing or bandage.
8. Keep the person warm.
9. Do not use creams or butter.
10. If CPR was commenced, continue until the ambulance arrives.
